A selection of key podcasts I’ve worked on

A series by Guardian Australia about the defamation trial brought by Ben Roberts-Smith. Roberts-Smith, Australia’s most decorated living soldier, sued three of the country’s most respected newspapers for defamation over articles he says falsely accuse him of war crimes. The court has yet to decide an outcome. As the supervising producer, I was responsible for managing the project and collaborating with the producers and presenter to make each episode.

As supervising producer for Guardian Australia’s news podcast, Full Story, I was involved in story selection, structuring each episode, editing and interviewing guests and overseeing the final product to publication. I also reported my own stories. A few episodes I’m proud of: the escape of the Afghan women’s football team, can a pain machine create empathy? and a woman, a bike, an impossible goal?

Unravel True crime - abc

Audio Producer

I worked on Season 1 and 2 of Unravel, as part of a small team that investigated, produced and compiled the podcast. Uniquely, each season had a television show attached, so I was responsible for finding golden moments and developing a story structure for each episode. Season 1 won a Walkley Award (Australian journalism’s highest accolade), and Season 2 reached audiences in the United States (Vulture) and the United Kingdom (Daily Mail).

THE FOLDED LIE

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

“I’ve got this story about a murder that happened 100 years ago…” These were the words spoken by my then manager, now co-collaborator, and so began indie podcast The Folded Lie. Using ten years worth of research, the podcast uncovers the injustice that followed the killing, and how the event continues to affect the two families involved today. In a three person team, we collaborated on the story structure, scripting and sound design.

The eleventh

PRODUCER

A podcast by ABC Audio Studios, The Eleventh explores the defining event in Australia’s political history - the dismissal of then Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam. I was involved in the very early stages of the podcast - finding archive, story structure, sound design and scene building.
